Lovely --really captures the nuance between identity and belonging in the creative process. When I think of outsider artists like johnston I think of the common thread which is that they're so removed from commercializing their creative process and seem to create out of a deep inner necessity
Thanks for reading Rowen. I agree, though interestingly Johnston was the most commercially successful of the musicians mentioned here, and was said to be fixated on becoming famous. That may have been part of his inner necessity.
